Pinturas sobre cartón began with an interest in papermaking and, from there, with recycled cardboard toilet paper rolls.
By combining cardboard pulp with white glue and cement, I arrived at a surface that looks & feels almost like stone. The material carries traces of its previous life while taking on a new form. These paintings emerge from that process of transformation, where ordinary materials are reworked, reimagined, and allowed to become something else. Through painting, this textured surface begins to evoke something ancient and sedimented, something that seems to have existed long before us.
This series moves toward intimacy and contemplation, echoing the quiet sense of wonder often found in nature when standing before the immensity of mountains. By bringing what feels like a fragment of stone into a human scale, the work invites the viewer to come closer, to read its surface, colours, and forms.
